GOBABIS, 13 OCT (NAMPA) - Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Otjiherero Radio Service Executive Producer, Uzeruaije Tjazerua on Friday survived a horrific car accident after the vehicle he was travelling in overturned.
The accident occurred some 150km south of Gam along the Epukiro-Gam road. The car was headed for Gam for a funeral service.
The driver, Ruben Tjamuaha told Nampa on the scene of accident that a rear tyre burst, causing him to lose control over the vehicle. As such, the vehicle veered off the road, rolled twice before coming to a stand still in nearby bushes.
Tjazerua, who was an occupant in the vehicle, sustained back and hip injuries.
Three more people - a man identified as Pastor Ludwig Mupurua and two unidentified women - were also seriously injured in the accident.
Mupurua complained of chest pains and has since been transferred to Windhoek for treatment along with Tjazerua who is recovering at the Roman Catholic Hospital in the capital.
The identities of the injured women could not be established by the time of filing this article, although one of them was said to be a daughter of Swapo member of parliament Kazenambo Kazenambo.
Only the driver, Tjamuaha, escaped unhurt in the accident.
When Nampa arrived on the scene - less than a 30 minutes after it had occurred - both Tjazerua and Mupurua were still at the scene with no help in sight. The driver had earlier managed to send the two women off for treatment in a passing vehicle.
The two men were later assisted by passing motorists who transported them to the Otjimanangombe Clinic, from where they were taken by ambulance to the Gobabis District Hospital.
Police investigation into the matter continues.
