Praise pour in for Gladiators

WINDHOEK, 12 OCT (NAMPA) – Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Hage Geingob has praised the Brave Gladiators for beating Zambia in their opening match of the TN Mobile African Women’s Football Championship underway in the capital.
The Gladiators scored two early first-half goals through Stella Williams and women of the match Thomalina Adams.
A statement availed by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) on Sunday said the PM tendered his appreciation of the Gladiators during half-time of the Nigeria and Ivory Coast game on Saturday.
“I'm so proud of you today. You came here and you did the job well. The goals were beautiful and the crowd loved you today, so please continue this and I urge the public to return on Tuesday as you face Ivory Coast, and I urge you to do more of today,” the statement quoted Geingob as saying.
Local Organising Committee chairperson and Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission, Shivute Katamba was also quoted as thanking the Gladiators and their coach Jacqueline Shipanga.
Namibia Football President John Muinjo too saluted the Namibian players.
“We can only improve on this, and now you go back and do your homework for the next game. Great start indeed,” he said.
Telecom Namibia (TN) Managing Director Frans Ndoroma, the championship’s title sponsor, also joined the bandwagon of praises and so did the chairperson of the Namibia Sports Commission Vivienne Katjiuongua.
Namibia will now prepare for the wounded Elephants of Ivory Coast on Tuesday evening at 20h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, after the Nigeria vs Zambia match at 17h00.
Ivory Coast was defeated 2-4 by Nigeria on Saturday.
