UNIVERSIADE HOCKEY: M'SIA KEEP HOPES ALIVE

KAZAN, (Russia), July 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia kept their hopes alive when they defeated Italy 4-1 in their third match in the hockey competition at the 27th World University Games (Universiade ke-27) at the Field Hockey Centre here today.

After a 7-1 demolition of Poland on Sunday, Malaysia were upset 1-4 by Russia yesterday.

In today's match, Andrea Corsi opened scoring for Italy in the 14th minute only to see Malaysia equalise via a penalty corner that was converted by captain Muhammad Razie Abdul Rahim three minutes later.

The second half saw Malaysia's Dangerous Lee netting a brace with goals in the 37th (penalty corner) and 44th minutes respectively.

Muhammad Razie then rounded off the match earning a brace for himself as well when he converted another penalty corner in the 55th minute.

Malaysia are next scheduled to play South Africa this Saturday.
