TEHRAN, July 11 (Bernama) â€" Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ramin Mehmanparast said Tehran is seeking to expand ties with the Philippines, Iranian Mehr News Agency MNA reported.

Mehmanparast made the remarks during a meeting with Filipino Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, Laura Q. Del Rosario in Manila on Wednesday.

Mehmanparast, who is also head of Foreign Ministry’s Centre for Public and Media Diplomacy, said Iran has enormous potential in various industrial and agricultural sectors and is willing to cooperate and exchange expertise with the Philippines.

He also called for holding a ceremony to honour the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Manila, which he said could help bolster ties.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian diplomat pointed to Iran's position towards regional and international developments, and emphasised the new Iranian administration will make efforts to boost ties with the outside world.

Mehmanparast also called on the West to seize the opportunity to form a balanced and fair relationship with Iran which would serve common interests and help promote peace and stability in the world.

On her part, Filipino official Del Rosario congratulated Iran on the election of Hassan Rohani as president, saying the election mirrored the dynamic political atmosphere in the republic.

She expressed hope that the two countries would continue exchanging visits as part of efforts to promote relations in trade, sports and the media sector.
