12 Jul 2013 11:19

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- BASF Petronas Chemicals Sdn Bhd has clarified that it had appealed for and received a deferment on the implementation of the minimum mandatory retirement age of 60, to Jan 1, 2014.

In a statement today, the company noted it did not receive an exemption or waiver in implementing the mandatory retirement age, as mentioned by a news report on this matter.

The report quoted Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) secretary-general Abdul Halim Mansor saying it objected to the human resources minister's decision to give exemptions on implementing the minimum retirement age to 258 companies which applied for the waiver under Section 18 of the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012.

The Act came into effect on July 1.
