WINDHOEK, 07 OCT (NAMPA) - The massive 78 carat diamond which disappeared from Oranjemund during a strike there in July this year, has not been recovered yet.
Namdeb Chief Executive Officer Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi confirmed this on Tuesday during her meeting with Prime Minister Hage Geingob.
She said it is regrettable that the diamond has not been recovered yet, and no culprit has been arrested. But the company is busy re-enforcing its security system.
The diamond was stolen immediately after it was recovered, and its value is unclear at this stage.
According to local media reports the diamond was found on 18 July by De Beers Marine, and it is one of the biggest diamonds ever found at sea.
The diamond was reported missing during the two-week strike.
That strike, in which about 800 workers participated, cost the company and Government N.dollars 140 million.
