CONTARCTOR'S NEGLIGENCE CAUSED HIGH VOLTAGE POLES TO TOPPLE - SESB

PENAMPANG, July 11 (Bernama) -- Negligence by the contractor widening a drain along Jalan Papar Lama near here caused three high voltage electricity poles belonging to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to topple over on Tuesday, according to SESB.

SESB senior general manager (Asset Management) SESB Ahmad Fuad Md Kasim in a statement here today said a mobile genset was utilised to cover loss of power supply until the situation was rectified.

He said initial losses was estimated at RM10,000 and advised contractors working near electrical lines to liase with SESB first before doing any work.

258 ILLEGALS DETAINED IN LANGKAWI WATERS

LANGKAWI, July 11 (Bernama) -- Langkawi Marine Operations Force (MOF) detained 258 illegal immigrants who were in a boat some three nautical miles from Tanjung Timun here early this morning.

Langkawi MOF District 1 commanding officer ASP Mohd Rodzi Abu Hasan said those detained included Myammar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, India and Kenya nationals.

He added that they included 29 boys and 27 girls and all detained had been referred to the Langkawi police headquarters for further action.

POLIS TAHAN ENAM PENGEDAR, RAMPAS HEROIN 260.15 GRAM DI TEMERLOH

TEMERLOH, 11 Julai (Bernama) -- Temerloh police arrested six drug dealers including two women and seized heroin weighing 260.15 grammes worth RM15,000 in raids at two houses in Taman Bukit Bendera, Mentakab near here yesterday.

Temerloh acting police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said the suspects were aged between 23 and 57 years.

He added all the suspects also tested positive for metamphetamine.

FIREARMS AND BULLETS IN HIJACKED POLICE MPV FOUND INTACT

BUKIT MERTAJAM, July 11 (Bernama) -- All police tools including MP5 rifles and bullets in the police MPV hijacked by a suspected thief in Kamunting which was recovered in Bukit Minyak here last night, were found intact.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the 32-year-old suspect had not taken any item in the MPV when he abandoned it in Bukit Minyak.

He added that police had set up a special task force to track down the suspect.

The suspect had managed to overcome the driver of the MPV while about to be transported to the police station in Kamunting at 7.40am yesterday.

COMSUMERS IN SABAH URGED TO LODGE COMPLAINTS ON PRICE HIKES

KOTA KINABALU, 11 Julai (Bernama) -- Consumers in Sabah are urged to lodge complaints to the authorities on price hikes in essential items and low quality goods this Ramadan.

State Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid said this would enable her ministry to mount effective enforcement.

"Consumers have rights. Just because it is one or two ringgit (in hikes) do not shy away from filing complaints," she told Bernama here today.

She also reminded consumers to furnish proof when making complaints.
