JOHOR BAHARU, July 11 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today drove a train himself for 50 kilometres on a rail trip to the Kluang station to meet the people there.

The Sultan is scheduled to be in Kluang for five days to attend to personal matters and it is understood that he will also visit the Ramadan bazaars there to meet the people.

Sultan Ibrahim was earlier welcomed on arrival at Johor Baharu Sentral at about 2pm by KTMB president Datuk Elias Kadir and state government officials before going into the locomotive to drive the Sinaran Selatan train which was carrying about 150 passengers.

But just before that, Sultan Ibrahim who appeared excited to drive the train told reporters that he had planned the trip since last month.

He had made mental and physical preparation to drive the train which took two hours and 15 minutes to reach Kluang.

This was the fifth time that the Johor Sultan drove a train after receiving a high-powered locomotive driving licence at the Kembara Mahkota Johor programme in June 2010.
