WINDHOEK, 01 OCT (NAMPA) – The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) has elected Maureen Dunn as its candidate for the Windhoek West by-election.
The director of the party’s Commission of Elections, Nic Kruger announced this during a media briefing here on Wednesday.
The election was necessitated by the death of Windhoek West regional councillor, Shikwetepo Haindongo in August 2014.
Haindongo, 61, died in the Medi-Park Hospital in Ongwediva after a short illness.
In her acceptance speech, Dunn promised to bring developmental changes in the constituency if elected into the position.
“I want to avail my expertise to revitalise the Windhoek West Constituency in different areas such as crime prevention, better bus and taxi transport, a fully-fledged police station and medical facilities,” she said.
Dunn further promised to bring recreational facilities for youth in the form of green parks and youth development centres.
She said her constituency also needs better traffic services on some parts of the western bypass road and better service delivery for pensioners.
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has set 14 November 2014 as the date for Windhoek West by-election.
