Engen Namibia Sponsors N$300, 000 to the Down syndrome Association of Namibia

Engen Namibia in its Corporate Social Investment initiative announced a three year sponsorship grant of N$300,000 to the Down Syndrome Association of Namibia (DSAN).

This grant is aimed for the education of children born with Down syndrome. The Minister of Education, David Namwandi stressed his conviction with regard to propelling the education system in Namibia towards addressing the needs of all learners, especially those who are at risk of being marginalized.

Managing Director of Engen Namibia Nangula Hamunyela, said that children born with Down syndrome deserve equal opportunities and should not be discriminated against simply because they have an extra chromosome. “Our decision to fund the Down Syndrome Association of Namibia is, amongst other things, the sector policy on inclusive education which recognises that there are special children who face barriers in learning.

We are further encouraged by the fact that the policy seek amongst other things, to ensure that all learners have access to an appropriate education that affords them the opportunity to achieve their potential” Hamunyela said. The Grant was received by the chairperson of the Down Syndrome Association, Dr van der Linden.
