SIBU, July 11 (Bernama) -- A woman and her two children, who were found murdered at their home in the Pulau Li Hua housing estate, were laid to rest at the Bukit Aup Chinese Cemetery near here this morning.
Earlier in the day, about 100 relatives and friends gathered at the Sibu Hospital mortuary to pay their last respects.
Among them were the woman's son, Tiang Soon Tai, 17, who narrowly escaped death at the hands of the alleged killer, Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail and his officers, and Dudong State Assemblyman Yap Hoi Liong.
Last Friday, housewife Ling Yung Ming, 40, and the children, Christine Tiang, 14, and son Victor Tiang, two, were found gassed to death at the house about 10am.
Soon Tai managed to escape from the alleged killer who was at home at the time.
A post-mortem at the Sibu General Hospital revealed that Ling and her children died due to asphyxiation.
The police have detained a 43-year-old suspect in connection with the murders.
According to Shafie, the man had earlier, requested the police to allow him to attend the funeral but changed his mind.
Meanwhile, he said the police hoped to extend the suspect's 10-day remand which expires tomorrow.
