Coastal car accidents claim seven lives

SWAKOPMUND, 28 SEP (NAMPA) – Six people perished in car accidents on coastal roads on Friday and Saturday.
Ten more were hospitalised with serious injuries.
On Friday afternoon, a truck squashed a microbus that was allegedly making a u-turn some 24 kilometres before Usakos.
Detective inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Walvis Bay confirmed to Nampa on Sunday, that the bus driver Frankey Christian Namaseb (age unknown), his wife Susan Namases, 34, and Sonia Seibes, 34 died in the crash.
“Fortunately, five-year old Stacy Namases survived the accident,” said the detective.
On Saturday evening, a two people died in a head-on collision between Swakopmund and Henties Bay.
NamPol’s detective inspector at Walvis Bay, John Mwatongwe confirmed to Nampa Sunday that 10 people involved in that accident were hospitalised with serious injuries.
The names of the deceased persons cannot be released as their next of kin are yet to be informed.
Another accident took the life of Lea Shikongo, 28, on Saturday evening near Dolphin Beach between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.
Shikongo was a member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) stationed at the Karibib Air Base.
Investigations on the actual causes of the three accidents continue.
