LIMA, July 11 (BERNAMA-NNN-ANDINA) -- Peru receives about 1,000 visitors from the United States every day with 60 per cent being tourists, U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Rose Likins said Wednesday.

In a speech at Peru - United States Forum organised by American Chamber of Commerce of Peru (AmCham Peru), Likins said that 35 per cent of visitors are business people and the remaining five per cent are students and volunteers.

"We have seen that although there are economic problems in the United States, U.S. citizens continue travelling and have chosen Peru as their favourite destination," she noted.

Likins said that in the last three years, the number of U.S. visitors has been increasing about ten per cent annually.

"Tourists, business people and students are coming. The number of visitors from the U.S. has climbed from 325,000 to 350,000 five years ago and in the last two years it continued growing," she said.
