OPUWO, 23 SEP (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)s Kunene regional netball team walked away with N.dollars 6 000 after winning the Opuwo sports festivals netball competition on Sunday.
The Opuwo OK Grocer Annual Football and Netball Tournament started on Saturday, and saw six netball teams compete against each other.
The netball teams that participated are Otjiuamapeta from Epukiro in the Omaheke Region; Opuwo Young Rangers from Okaoko-Otavi in Kunene; the OK Grocer netball team from Opuwo; Hotspring netball team from Okangwati village in Kunene; and the NamPol and Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus teams from Ongwediva in the Oshana Region.
The second place was scooped by Otjiuamapeta that took home N.dollars 2 500, while the Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus settled for third place and N.dollars 1 500.
Karipire Ruiter, the captain of the NamPol netball team, said the tournament was very well organised.
She, however, lamented the fact that so few teams participated, and suggested that Opuwo host a netball tournament in the near future to encourage the youth to be active in sports.
The football trophy was won by the Kefas Muzuma Warriors Football Club from the Otjokavare village in the Kunene Region.
They beat the Opuwo Eleven 1-0 during the finals.
