KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian SuperSports 600cc rider, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman aims to secure a double win at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) in Chennai, India to extend his lead in the 2013 Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).
The Musashi Boon Siew Honda Racing rider currently leads the overall standings with 90 points and holds a 21-point advantage over title contender, Katsuaki Fujiwara (BEET Kawasaki Racing), who has 69 points.
The 29-year-old rider, who has always enjoyed riding on technical circuits, is hoping that the demanding conditions at the MMRT will suit him better compared with his Kawasaki rival who has yet to record any podium finish on the 3.717km circuit.
"We're expecting a slight advantage this weekend because the Kawasaki has always struggled here (MMRT) and it's a great opportunity for me to try and score a double win and distance myself in the standings.
"If I don't do this now, it would be difficult to sustain the lead to keep my title hopes alive because Fujiwara is well versed with the remaining venues on the race calendar - Suzuka, Autopolis and Losail," Azlan Shah said in a statement, today.

On his prospects this weekend, Azlan said: "I feel confident and highly motivated because we've a strong team of highly-experienced engineers in the garage, working on getting the best setup. I've also been told the circuit has been upgraded, so I'm certain we'll benefit further from this."
He said his only concern now was to avoid making any errors during the race and crashing in the final moments of the race like the last time the ARRC was hosted here, back in 2011.
"Besides that, I should also keep an eye on Mohd Zamri Baba (Petronas Hong Leong Yamaha) because the rider put up a strong performance in Indonesia where we had a very close race and I'm certain he will be threat against this weekend," Azlan Shah added.
