KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), through its wholly-owned subsidiary, TNB Repair and Maintenance (TNB REMACO) and Kharafi National of Kuwait, have signed an agreement with Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) for the operations and maintenance of Shuaiba North Co-Generation (Power and Distillation) Plant in Kuwait.

The seven-year contract is worth KD88.882 million or about RM1 billion, TNB said in a statement today.

The co-generation plant owned by MEW is located within the Shuaiba Industrial Authority Area, about 40Km from Kuwait City.

The dual-fired plant (natural gas and distillate) has the capacity to generate around 780MW (Megawatt) power and 45 Million Imperial Gallons Per Day of distilled water. The plant was commissioned in 2010.

In January, Kuwait’s Central Tender Committee issued a letter of award for the joint venture between TNB Remaco and Kharafi National for the operations and maintenance of the Shuaiba North Co-Generation (Power and Distillation) Plant.
