WINDHOEK, 09 SEP (NAMPA) - The Namibia Football Association (NFA) will brief the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Championship organising committee on Namibia’s preparedness on Thursday.
NFA head John Muinjo is expected to table a report during a CAF Standing Committee meeting, set for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The report follows the visit by the CAF women’s championship inspection team here in March this year, during which time members inspected the accommodation facilities and met with various stakeholders, including Government, ahead of the competition in Windhoek from 11 to 25 October.
It would be the ninth edition of the Cup.
The meeting will also map out the way forward for the organisation of various CAF competitions and divisions.
“It is merely to indicate to them what we have done thus far since the last inspection and final draw events. How the venues are shaping up, and many other related matters.
This report will be very crucial indeed,” Muinjo was quoted as saying in a statement availed to Nampa on Monday.
The committee will then analyse the report, and possibly order one more final inspection.
Muinjo said everything has to be done according to the guidelines set out in organising this kind of CAF tournament.
“We also have to indicate how as a country, an association and local organising committee (LOC) we are handling the Ebola issue.
That is why collective national cooperation has been fundamental to the preparations of this championship,” he noted.
Muinjo described the tabling of the report as a defining moment, but stated that “our confidence remains high that we can have the final green light once again”.
Namibia will open the championship against Zambia on 11 October at 17h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Nigeria will play against Ivory Coast at the Independence Stadium at 20h00.
Both teams are in Group A.
Namibia's second game will be on 14 October at 20h00 against Ivory Coast, before its final group game on 17 October against Nigeria at 17h00 at the Sam Nujoma stadium.
The semi-finals are scheduled for 22 October, and the final on 25 October at the same venue.
