OPUWO, 28 AUG (NAMPA) – Swapo Party Vice-President, Dr Hage Geingob says the ruling party has a great track record of service delivery as well as its commitment to peace and socio-economic development for the people of Namibia.
Addressing about 150 traditional leaders and business communities of the Kunene Region at Opuwo on Saturday, Geingob said the Swapo Party has delivered consistently before and after independence, and the party will continue to look after the interests of Namibians in future years as well.
Geingob is the Swapo Party’s candidate for the presidential elections at the end of the year, and because of Swapo’s popularity among voters, he is widely expected to sail through the elections and take over as Namibia’s third President on 21 March 2015.
The Swapo Party vice-president told the gathering that the ruling party has lived up to its promises over the years and delivered tangible and visible results over the years.
“Swapo promised to bring independence and self-determination, which we did. Swapo maintained peace and stability in Namibia under the leadership of the political icon, the founding President Dr Sam Nujoma, followed by the second President of Namibia - a great man - Hifikepunye Pohamba who is doing very well. Now people are expecting more delivery on economic development from the third president,” said Geingob.
He said one of the more pressing challenges for Namibia, which the incoming president will have to deal with, is poverty and the widening gap between the rich and the poor. He said strategies will need to be devised to address these issues because the country has enough resources to address these challenges.
Geingob was visiting various regions to introduce himself as the Swapo Party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming election, and to consult traditional leaders and business communities on their expectations from him.
