OSHAKATI, 28 AUG (NAMPA) – Namibia Development Corporation (NDC) Chairperson John Nekwaya has praised the late Harold Pupkewitz as a visionary and inspirational Namibian business leader.
Nekwaya was speaking at the inauguration of the refurbished premises of Pupkewitz Motors; Northern Branch at Oshakati in the Oshana Region at the weekend.
Nekwaya said Pupkewitz’s success and leadership style in business was such that it also inspired many Namibians to attempt to replicate his business acumen and philosophy.
He told those who attended the inauguration that Pupkewitz approached the NDC in 2000 for a partnership between Pupkewitz Toyota and the NDC.
“The convergence of these two giants resulted in the formation of this agile joint venture – the Pupkewitz Motors North (Pty) Ltd,” Nekwaya stated.
He said Pupkewitz approached the NDC at a time when the corporation was about to lose its franchise from Toyota South Africa due to some unfavourable economic conditions.
“We were facing a multitude of challenges. The biggest of these challenges was whether we should accept defeat and allow forfeiture of our franchise rights, which would have resulted in the consequential departure of all Toyota dealerships from the North, north-central and north east” Nekwaya explained.
The NDC eventually resolved to enter into a partnership with Pupkewitz Toyota and this decision proved to have been the correct one as it has led to much success.
The refurbished Pupkewitz Motors North premises are situated near the Oshakati Open Market on the way to the Okatana Roman Catholic Mission.
