KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Foreign Ministry today confirmed that all Malaysian citizens in Egypt are safe.
The ministry, in a statement issued here today, said the report of three Malaysian students who were attacked and robbed by a group of local street criminals in Cairo last Sunday was an isolated case and not connected to the demonstrations and uprising currently taking place in Egypt.
It said officials at the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo and the Education Malaysia Egypt (EME) had provided necessary assistance to the students concerned.
"Malaysians are also constantly advised to avoid conflict-ridden areas and refrain from participating in any political related activities in Egypt.
"They are also advised to adhere to the security guidelines issued by the Malaysian Embassy and the local authorities, while students who have completed their examinations are encouraged to return home," it added.
Wisma Putra will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety and security of all Malaysians.
