Woman strangled to death at Aussenkehr

WINDHOEK, 24 AUG (NAMPA) – A 24-year-old woman was strangled to death in her room at Aussenkehr in the Karasburg District on Saturday night.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi in a media statement issued here on Sunday said the incident occurred at around 22h50.
The deceased has been identified as Dophistar Mwaka Chinyama.
A 28-year-old Namibian man has been arrested in connection with the murder and will appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Also in the Karasburg District, the 33-year-old Katrina Malinda Rooi suffered light burn wounds on her head and both hands when the corrugated iron shack she was sleeping in burned down on Saturday.
The incident occurred at the Grunau settlement between 02h00 and 03h00.
All household items, clothes and other belongings were destroyed.
It is suspected that one of the people living in the shack smoked and caused the fire while the rest of the occupants were asleep.
Rooi was admitted to the Karasburg State Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile in Windhoek, a decomposed body was found by a passerby in a riverbed behind Getaway Centre in Khomasdal at around 11h30 last Tuesday.
The deceased has not yet been identified. A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Also in Windhoek, the Monte Christo Service Station in the Lafrenz industrial area was robbed of nearly N.dollars 700 000 between 18 and 19 August.
The suspect, who is a security guard working in the control room, allegedly removed the safe keys from a steel cabinet and stole N.dollars 658 564.55 in cash along with his accomplices who have since been arrested.
The suspects’ ages range from 27 to 73.
The police have since recovered N.dollars 145 860.75.
