TENGKU ZAIHAN VOWS TO CONTINUE DR A RAHMAN'S GOOD WORKS IF HE WINS BY-ELECTION

KUALA BESUT, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate for the Kuala Besut state by-election vows to continue the good works of the late Dr A Rahman Mokhtar if he receives the people's mandate in the Kuala Besut state by-election scheduled for July 24.

Speaking to reporters here, Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman, 37, said he would like to thank the prime minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, for choosing him as the BN candidate for the by-election, which he described as a big by-election.

Tengku Zaihan, who hails from Kampung Nail here and holds a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), said he promised to dedicate his time and effort to serve and fight for the people's wellbeing if he were elected as the assemblyman for the constituency.

"I would also like to extend my utmost gratitude to the BN election machinery and members for supporting my candidacy to serve the people of Kuala Besut," said the chosen candidate, who is also Seri Seratus Umno member.

After working as an engineer for over five years in Kuala Besut and 10 years in Putrajaya, he said he was used to people at the grassroot.

"Although my name starts with a Tengku, I'm just a regular guy and it's not a problem for me because I'm used to people of Kuala Besut," said the candidate who was described by many as friendly and having vast potential to be a leader.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as the Kuala Besut by-election director, announced the name BN's candidate for the by-election in front of over 5,000 BN machinery members in Dataran Kuala Besut earlier today.
