THREE MEN HELD OVER MURDER OF WOMAN IN GEORGE TOWN

GEORGE TOWN, July 9 (Bernama) -- Three men were detained by police in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found in a durian orchard near the White Resort National Service Training Camp in Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau yesterday.

Penang CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said the three men, aged between 45 and 56, were separately arrested around George Town at 10.30pm last night.

"One of the suspects was the owner of the beauty centre where the victim was employed while another one was the victim's boyfriend. We believed that the murder was due to jealousy," he told reporters, here, today.

Mazlan said futher investigation found that the victim, June Xing, 37, a Chinese national, had been living in Penang for five years.

"The woman went out from her house at 6.30pm on Sunday and did not return home after that. The victim was believed to be killed elsewhere before her body was thrown into the orchard," he said.

He said, the post-mortem result showed that she was stabbed 17 times on the back of her body while her neck was also slashed over 10 centimetres using sharp objects but there was no element of sexual assault found.
