Paths to Freedom tells the stories of how in the 1960’s Namibian peasants and migrant labourers created a nationalist movement, Swapo, and a guerilla army to fight the illegal occupation of their country by South Africa. Told against the contexts of German colonization, the United Nations’ responsibility for Namibia and the winds of change that were sweeping across Africa in the 1950’s and 1960’s the film recounts how Namibians broke the chain of being slaves in their own country to eventually take up arms against South Africa.
Followed by Q&A with the filmmaker.
