95,339 PREMISES INSPECTED FOR AEDES MOSQUITO IN T'GANU

MARANG, July 9 (Bernama) -- A total of 95,339 premises including shops, houses and open spaces were inspected to identify aedes breeding grounds in Terengganu in the first sixt months of this year, according to the state Health Department.

Its director Datuk Dr Anwa Sulaiman said of the total, 5,887 premises were given notices to have the premises cleaned up while owners of 457 premises which were found to be aedes breeding grounds were fined the maximum compound fine of RM500 each.

He told this to reporters after participating in an anti-aedes campaign here today.

JOHOR MALAY CONTRACTORS UNHAPPY LEFT OUT OF MEGA PROJECTS

JOHOR BAHARU, July 9 (Bernama) -- Members of the Johor Malay Contractors are fuming that they are not being given a chance to participate in the many mega proejects being implemented in the state.

Its chairman Mahmood Amir said they were just "decorative pieces" at the launch of such projects when in fact the contracts were undertaken by outsiders.

Speaking at press conference here today, he cited Iskandar Malaysia as an example stating that the members hardly benefited from it and even if they did, it was rather negligible.

He urged the federal and state governments to view the matter seriously.

NAFAS TO HAVE OWN VARSITY NEXT YEAR

KUALA TERENGGANU, 9 Julai (Bernama) -- The National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) is collaborating with Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) to set up an agriculture university.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Saipolbahari Suib told reporters here today that the first campus of Universiti Peladang will be up an running in Sungai Petani early next year.

He added that the main campus would be built in Bakri, Muar when the Sungai Petani campus had proven to be successful.

"MY RUKUN NEGARA" PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTED IN 510 SCHOOLS IN PERAK

IPOH, July 9 (Bernama) -- The 'My Rukun Negara' programme has been implemented in 510 primary and secondary schools in Perak to foster greater unity among the races and patriotism.

State Women's Development, Family, Welfare and National Integration Committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim said in schools, teachers were the agents to ensure students absorbed the principles contained in the Rukun Negara (National philosophy).

She told this to reporters after launching the state-level 'My Rukun Negara' programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jelapang Jaya here today.
