KUALA BESUT, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu contingent police are deploying about 3,000 personnel including 200 officers to maintain security and ensure the by-election for the Kuala Besut state seat runs smoothly.

Terengganu Chief Police Officer Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said besides the regular policemen, the Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR), Rela and Civil Defence Department personnel would also be deployed to maintain security and control traffic during the by-election.

"Throughout the campaign period from July 12 until polling day on July 24, the police will create 25 police posts at locations which we consider to be hot spots," he told reporters after a meeting at the Kuala Besut Police Headquarters, here today.

RTM TO HAVE LIVE CROSSOVER FOR KUALA BESUT BY-ELECTION KUALA TERENGGANU, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Broadcasting Department has drawn up special programmes in conjunction with the by-election for the Kuala Besut state seat for two weeks from July 11 to 24.

Its Director, Azizah Mohd Yusoff said the special programmes were meant to cover the whole duration of the campaign until polling day.

"In conjunction with the by-election, we will have crossovers for six hours daily at certain times at a resort in Kuala Besut and certain other places to cover the campaign and polling day," she told reporters when met at the Terengganu Equestrian Resort (TER), here today.

MPT PRESIDENT WANTS RAMADAN BAZAAR TO BE CLEAN TAWAU, July 9 (Bernama) -- Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) President, Datuk Ismail Mayakob wants traders at the Ranadan Bazaar here to pay serious attention to cleanliness at their respective stalls.

He said MPT enforcement personnel would always carry out checks and monitor the stalls to ensure that the regulations were complied with.

"The MPT has allowed four areas to be used for selling food for the breaking of the fast beginning tomorrow at the carpark opposite Plaza Sabindo, the former Sabah Century celebration site, the Fuji Mart at Jalan Sin On and Bangunan MARA. "So far, 362 lots for the Ramadan stalls have been provided for the convenience of the public to buy puasa delicacies," he told Bernama, here today.

MALAYSIA'S TOURISM SECTOR EXPECTED TO GROW FURTHER

KANGAR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The country's tourism sector is expected to remain as a major contributor to the economy if every state can provide creative tourism packages to woo the tourists, said the Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism Industry) of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Rashidi Hasbullah.

He said that players in the tourism sector must plan the best packages before the commencement of the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 to at least achieve the target of attracting 28 million foreign tourists to the country.

Speaking to reporters after the VMY 2014 briefing here today, he said every state had its own advantages and capability to woo tourists from all over the world.

MOGINAKAN FEAST TO BE FEATURED AT SABAH MUSEUM'S 48TH ANNIVERSARY KOTA KINABALU, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Moginakan Feast is one of the attractions at the 48th Anniversary of the Sabah Museums at the Sabah Museums Complex, near here for three days beginning July 14.

Sabah Museums Director Joanna Kitingan said the Moginakan Feast, usually held after the conclusion of the padi harvesting season, would be featured for the first time in conjunction with the Museums' anniversary this year.

"We will hold the 'Pesta Moginakan' at the 'Rumah Sonsogon', which is one of the biggest traditional houses in the traditional housing settlement at the Sabah Museums Complex," she said.

ANTI-AEDES AND CLEANLINESS OPERATIONS AT FOOD OUTLETS

KUANTAN, July 9 (Bernama) -- Twenty-nine eating outlets were ordered temporarily closed in an operation to check cleanliness at eating outlets in Pahang.

According to Pahang Health Director, Dr Norhizan Ismail, in the operation from 8.30am till 10pm yesterday, the outlets were ordered closed for 14 days under Section 11 of the Malaysian Food Act 1983.

"A total of 134 eating premises were inspected and 29 were issued with the order for a 14-day closure for failing to comply with the cleanliness aspect specified," he told Bernama, here today.

KOLEJ UNIVERSITI INSANIAH TURNED INTO STATUTORY BODY

ALOR SETAR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The staff of Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) received good news today when Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir announced that the state government and Kuin Board of Directors had agreed to turn the university college into a statutory body. The Director of Kuin's Public Relations Department, Muhammad Azki Hafizi Ibrahim said the announcement was made by Mukhriz when attending the Kuin Staff Monthly Assembly yesterday afternoon.

In addition, the 550 Kuin staff also received a windfall when Mukhriz announced a pay rise for them just like the one enjoyed by other civil servants.
