OMUNDUDU, 13 AUG (NAMPA) – The 12th edition of the Omundudu football and netball tournament will take place from 22 to 24 August at the Omundudu Combined School (CS) sports ground.
The event is organised by Steven Nghipandwa, who initiated it in 2003.
It has since become an annual tournament for various football and netball clubs from the Ohangwena Region's Omundudu village and neighbouring villages.
“The tournament’s aim is to bring community members together and provide an opportunity for the youth to engage in a positive sporting competition that promotes a healthy drug-free lifestyle,” Nghipandwa told Nampa on Tuesday.
He said Keshii Shangano is co-sponsoring this year’s tournament to the tune of N.dollars 3 000.
The Etunda Football Club and Oshali Netball Club are the tournament’s defending champions.
Eight football teams and three netball teams have already registered their interest to participate this year.
The registration fee is N.dollars 250 per football team and N.dollars 125 per netball team.
One football player and one netball player will each be awarded trophies for outstanding performance during the tournament.
The winning football team will receive N.dollars 1 000, a floating trophy and 15 gold medals, while the runners-up get N.dollars 500 and 15 silver medals, and the semi-final losers are to receive N.dollars 250 each.
The winning netball team will take home N.dollars 500, a floating trophy and 10 gold medals, the runners-up will receive N.dollars 250 and 10 silver medals, and the semi-final losers will walk away with N.dollars 125 each.
The competition's draw will be held on 22 August at 08h30 at the Omundudu CS sports ground.
