FATAL SHOOTING OF TEACHER: HIT JOB, REVENGE SUSPECTED

KOTA BAHARU, July 9 (Bernama) -- Police are not dismissing that the fatal shooting of a teacher of Sekolah Kebangsaan Beris Panchor here yesterday was a hit job with revenge believed to be the motive.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said police believed this could be the case because it was understood the victim was also involved in business.

"So far the information we have is mere hearsay. What we heard was that the victim was also a businessman, did not pay his debts, did not keep his word, this might have made the person on the other end angry to the point of hiring a a hit-man," he told reporters after attending the Kelantan police headquarters monthly gathering here today.

Jalaluddin said police were also having difficulty finding witnesses because people were fearful of volunteering information.

Hashim Mat Zain, 43, who is also a music teacher at the school, was gunned down by a lone gunman at the Jalan Beris Panchor Tawang-Kota Baharu T-junction nearby the school at 1.40pm.
