KL SHARES HIGHER AT MID-DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were higher at mid-day today in sync with other regional bourses, dealers said.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,767.52, up 4.65 points, after opening 4.15 points better at 1,767.02.

Market breadth was positive, with 370 gainers, 242 losers, 289 counters unchanged, 675 untraded and 16 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 692.73 million shares worth RM736.06 million.

A dealer said most regional bourses showed improvement even as Wall Street extended overnight gains, with key indices rising between 0.2 per cent and 0.6 per cent.

"Sentiment was boosted by better corporate earnings expectations and an upswing in European equities," a dealer said.

On the scoreboard, the Plantation Index lost 5.37 points to 8,368.3 and the Industrial Index added 1.21 points to 2,988.01.

The Finance Index rose 52.99 points to 16,891.98 and the FBM Emas Index added 33.8 points to 12,323.7.

The FBM 70 Index increased 30.38 points to 14,201.67 but the FBM ACE Index fell 1.0 points to 4,742.96.

Among actives, Luster Industries and Asia Media gained half sen each to 11 sen and 16.5 sen respectively.

Malaysia Airlines which has introduced flights to Kochi, India, and reinstated flights to Darwin, Australia, rose half sen to 31.5 sen. As for the heavyweights, Maybank added 12 sen to RM10.42, CIMB was flat at RM8.24 and Axiata was up one sen to RM6.67. -- BERNAMA
