Jonas wins silver in boxing at CWG

WINDHOEK, 03 AUG (NAMPA) – Namibian boxer Junius Jonas won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday.
Jonas lost on points in the final of the light welterweight category against Josh Taylor from Scotland.
All three judges scored the fight 30-27 in favour of Taylor.
Namibian paralympian powerlifter Ruben Soroseb ended sixth in the men’s heavyweight category, lifting 167.4kg.
The gold medal went to Abdulazeez Ibrahim from Nigeria, who managed to lift 190.9, while silver went to Rajinder Rahelu of India, and bronze to Malaysia’s Jong Yee Khie.
Namibia has secured three medals at the Commonwealth Games thus far - two bronze medals were won by paralympians Johanna Benson and Lahja Ishitile in women’s T34 long jump and women’s T12 100 meters, respectively.
Meanwhile, Namibian cyclists Vera Adrian and Irene Steyn did not finish the women’s road race on Sunday.
Their male counterparts were due to commence their road race at 12h00 local time. They are Till Drobish, Gerhard Mans, Costa Seibeb, Loto Petrus, Dan Craven and Heiko Redecker.
