JUDICIAL COMMISSIONER ANGRY, DEFENCE COUNSEL ABSENT FOR DECISION

ALOR SETAR, July 8 (Bernama) -- The absence of a defence counsel in a murder case which was fixed for decision at the High Court here today drew the wrath of Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab.

He became noticeably angry when informed by lawyer Pyara Singh that defence counsel T. Jayaraj could not be in court today as he had to attend to other matters in Putrajaya.

Mohd Zaki said the excuse given by Jayaraj in requesting for the case to be postponed, through a letter sent yesterday, could not be accepted because the date for today's decision had been set earlier.

Jayaraj is representing Rohaizal Mohd Rashid, 34, who is charged with another person still at large, with the murder of Mohd Noor Khairulizam, 26, in a bush area in front of Kulim Golf Club between 7pm and 9pm on Nov 13, 2010.

The charge carries the death sentence upon conviction.

Mohd Zaki then set July 15 to give his decision.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Aishah Abd Rashid prosecuted in the case.
