SEPANG, July 8 (Bernama) -- Operators of all rail transport and other public transportation such as buses and taxis need to use an integrated one-ticket-for-all solution system, said Public Land Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
He said the integrated ticketing system would not only provide a better inter-connection for daily commuters but allow the Express Rail Link to widen its services for LRT, and KTM commuters including buses and taxis in providing a streamless travelling and more efficient services.
"ERL caters for air travellers, who are mainly passengers taking single trips or have a single purpose of using the KLIA Ekspres as a connection from KLIA to KL Sentral, and with the integrated ticket system it will definitely ensure a smooth journey for passengers," he told reporters at a press conference after launching the new automatic fare collection on KLIA Expres and KLIA Transit train services at the KL International Airport, here today.
The new system replaces the former magenetic stripe paper ticketing system which also includes new ticketing gates, smart cards, QR barcode tickets as well as self-care services such as a revamped online ticketing portal, self-service kiosks and new mobile applications.
Also present at the event were Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) executive chairman, Datuk Seri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh and ERL chief executive officer, Noormah Mohd Noor.

Syed Hamid said all public transport operators should emulate ERL's move in using the latest technology which provided its customers easy access in purchasing their tickets online or using the mobile applications from their respective locations worldwide.
"This technologically advanced ticketing system on the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services by ERL is a positive step towards achieving an efficient fare collection system which benefits both the company and its passengers.
"This will further improve the efficiency of the train service which is already charting an excellent 99.7 percent on-time performance," he said.
The increase in the quality and performance of our public transportation system will further encourage the public to take public transport, therefore SPAD is now working in improving the public transportation systems nationwide.
Meanwhile, Noormah said the new automatic fare collection on KLIA Expres and KLIA Transit train services gave passengers easy access to get their tickets anytime.

"The new system is also supported by a new website which allows passengers to book their tickets online and create a personal profile which can be easily retrieved in future for quicker purchases as well as repeat purchases," she said.
