MAYANA, 31 JUL (NAMPA) – A donkey race will take place at the Mayana village, situated 10km east of Rundu, on Saturday.
This is the first time such an event will be hosted here.
The event is sponsored by the ‘Make Change Possible’, a German-based charity organisation.
The charity’s chairperson, Monika Handwerker told Nampa on Thursday three donkeys from the Mayana village will be used for the racing competition, and the winner jockey will walk away with a floating trophy and an English Premier League football jersey of their choice, which were donated to the charity organisation.
The participation fee is N.dollars 5 per person.
The ‘Make Change Possible’ board chairperson explained that the donkey race was decided by the community members themselves.
For the past four years, the charity successfully held other sports competitions, such as a 21 kilometres running race, 250km bike ride, and canoe race.
Early this month, the charity successfully held a children’s festival at the same village, where children aged between 03 and 14 were treated to various fun games and sports activities.
The festival attracted over 180 children from that village and surrounding areas.
