At 5.00 pm, the ringgit declined to 3.2080/2110 to the US dollar against 3.1870/1900 on Friday.
A dealer said investors were chasing the greenback as market expectations grew that the Federal Reserve will scale back stimulus programmes as early as September following solid jobs growth.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit ended mixed.
The ringgit declined against the Singapore dollar to 2.5018/5045 from 2.4967/4996 last week. It strengthened against the yen to 3.1656/1698 from 3.1860/1897 last Friday.
The local unit depreciated against the British pound to 4.7780/7834 from 4.7773/7824 last week and fell against the euro to 4.1184/1236 from 4.1049/1097 last Friday. -- BERNAMA
