LABOURER SENT TO JAIL FOR DEATH OF FIANCEE'S FOSTER DAUGHTER

MELAKA, July 8 (Bernama) -- A labourer was sentenced to five years' jail by the Sessions Court here today after he pleaded guilty to a charge of causing the death of his fiancee's five-year-old foster daughter last year.

Judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh ordered Amiezul Al Ikram Mohamed Ikram, 33, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Feb 21 this year.

Amiezul Al Ikram was charged with causing the death of Noor Sofia Syaqira Abdullah at No 34, Jalan Seri Emas 20, Taman Seri Telok Mas here at about 4pm on Sept 1 last year.

The charge, under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for 10 years.

According to the facts of the case, a verbal exchange broke out between Amiezul Al Ikram and his fiancee at about 3pm to 4pm on the day of the incident and during that time, he lost control and released his temper on the girl by slapping her and throwing a bottle of mineral water which hit her on the head.

COURT-MURDER 2 (LAST) MELAKA

At 7.55am the following day, the girl was taken to Melaka Hospital where she was found lifeless and suspected to have died at home.

A post-mortem on the body revealed that she died due to blunt trauma to the head, chest and also abdominal injury.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Maisarah Kamal prosecuted, while lawyer Collin Andrew represented Amiezul Al Ikram.
