KUALA TERENGGANU, July 8 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as the director of the Kuala Besut by-election, is expected to arrive in Kuala Besut tomorrow to announce the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.
According to a statement issued by the Terengganu Communications Unit (UKOM), Muhyiddin is expected to announce the BN candidate for the by-election at the Dataran Kuala Besut at 3pm tomorrow.
Among the dignitaries expected to be present are Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, as the deputy director of the Kuala Besut by-election.
The Kuala Besut state constituency seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent, Dr A Rahman Mokhtar on June 26 due to lung cancer.
MEDIA COVERAGE CONTRIBUTES TO DROP IN TERENGGANU DENGUE CASES
MARANG, July 8 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Health Department today recorded its appreciation to the state media for constantly giving wide coverage on the health aspect of the people of Terengganu.
Its director, Datuk Dr Anwa Sulaiman said through the media coverage, the people were provided information and given appropriate education on the health aspect that they should focus on.
"I thank the Terengganu media for the success of the (health) department in bringing down dengue fever cases this year, and the excessive media coverage had influenced the community into changing their lifestyle and environment to be free of the Aedes," he said. He said this to reporters after carrying out inspections on 1,301 residential premises, shops and open spaces around Chendering and Marang today.
KAK AZM HUSBAND AND WIFE KILLED IN CRASH WITH LORRY IN SUNGKAI IPOH, July 8 (Bernama) -- A couple died after the Proton Wira in which they were travelling was involved in a crash with a lorry laden with oil palm on the Sungkai-Felda Besout Main Road, here last night.
Car driver Mohd Pohari Mulyati, 61, and his wife, Siti Sa'idiah Pardi, 58, died on the spot due to severe injuries and their remains had been sent to the Slim River Hospital for autopsy.
Tanjung Malim OCPD, Supt Othman Nayan said in the incident at 9.20pm, the car, which was travelling from Sungkai to Felda Besout was pinned underneath the lorry after ramming it from the rear.
MAIWP COLLECTS RM178 MILLION IN TITHES DURING FIRST SIX MONTHS
KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Bernama) -- The Tithe Collection Centre, Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (PPZ-MAIWP) has collected RM178 million in the form of tithes for the first six months of this year.
PPZ-MAIWP deputy chief executive officer Abdul Hakim Amir Osman said the amount was paid by 94,562 contributors, which was higher compared to the payments received for the same period last year amounting to RM150 million paid by 83,234 contributors. "However, there are still a small section of Muslims out there who have yet to receive clear information on their obligations to pay tithes especially on the calculation and facilities for tithe payment," he said at a media conference after launching two events simultaneously at the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza, here today.
