GROOTFONTEIN, 20 JUL (NAMPA) A 22-year-old man died in the Grootfontein State Hospital on Sunday morning from a stab wound on the left side of his chest.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Sunday the deceased has been identified as Erastus Kashihupulwa Japhet.
His next of kin have been informed of his death.
Mbeha said the stabbing incident occurred at about 01h00 on Sunday morning at the Damara Bar in the Omulunga residential area of the town.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that Japhet was separating two men who were involved in a physical fight at the same bar.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man whose name is known but cannot be revealed since he is yet to appear in court, allegedly came from behind and stabbed Japhet once with a knife.
He died shortly after arrival at the Grootfontein State Hospital.
The suspect, who is also a resident of Grootfontein, was arrested on the same day, and is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations continue.
