OSHAKATI, 10 JUL (NAMPA) – Metropolitan Momentum Investment Holdings Namibia (MMI Namibia) is to invest N.dollars 150 000 in the Metropolitan/Swabou Life Summer Cup that is due to commence its activities in northern Namibia this weekend.
This was announced by MMI Holdings Namibia Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jason Nandago during the launch of the Cup at Oshakati in the Oshana Region on Thursday.
Previously known as the Metropolitan Summer Cup, the Cup is now renamed the Metropolitan/Swabou Life Summer Cup because of the merger between Metropolitan and Swabou Life Insurance in 2012.
The official launch coincided with the unveiling of a set of new life insurance products under the Metropolitan/Swabou Life merger.
The Cup is regarded as one of the most prestigious sports events in northern Namibia, and has for the past seven years attracted hundreds of learners and other sport fans from various school communities in the northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto.
It targets mainly learners from primary and combined schools, and intends to identify and grooming young talent for regional and national football and netball teams.
“We are pleased to announce that this year, we will make a contribution of N.dollars 150 000 towards the event, catering for sports equipment, prize money and logistical payments towards the event,” Nandago told those who attended the launch.
He added that the MMI Namibia Group, through the Metropolitan/Swabou Life brand, is keen in investing in youth projects, especially on the sports front.
The inter-regional finals of the Metropolitan/Swabou Life Summer Cup are scheduled to take place at Oshakati on 13 September.
