U.S. RESEARCHER COMMITTED SUICIDE, SINGAPORE CORONER RULES

SINGAPORE, July 8 (Bernama) -- A Singapore state coroner on Monday ruled that American researcher Dr Shane Todd committed suicide by hanging and found no foul play was involved in his death. Local television Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported Coroner Chay Yuen Fatt accepted that the cause of Dr Todd's death was asphyxia by hanging, and noted that he had suicidal ideations. Dr Todd's family was not in court on Monday but lawyers who represented the family during the inquiry were present on their behalf. Dr Todd was found hanged in his Chinatown apartment in June last year. His parents remain convinced he was murdered, although suicide notes allegedly written by him were found on his laptop. The researcher's parents believe he was murdered over sensitive research he had done while working at Singapore's Institute of Microelectronics. -- BERNAMA
