The Senior Namibian Ladies team played their final game of the 2014 Ice and Inline Hockey World Championships on Sunday against France for placement 5th or 6th. The French team came out to a nearly full stadium of supporters and used that excitement to gain an early lead on Namibia. The final score at halftime was 2-0 in favor of France. Despite some good efforts from the Namibian Ladies France controlled the majority of the first half.
In the second half Namibia would not go quietly and slowly began to chip away at the French lead. Didi Foerster scored a goal from the slot on a one time pass from Danielle Schmidt. Shortly after while short handed Danielle Schmidt scored a shorthanded goal...making the score 3-2 in favor of France. France would score again in the next minutes making it 4-2. With less than 2 minutes left Namibia pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker and Danielle Schmidt scored her second goal of the game making the score 4-3.
In the final minute of play Namibia took two more shots that the French goalie turned away and Namibia lost the game 4-3.
Namibia Ladies finished with a World ranking of 6. The highest ever placement by any Namibian team.
