OKAHANDJA, 07 JUL (NAMPA) – A 46-year-old physically-challenged man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope inside his room in Okahandja on Sunday morning.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations’ Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Monday that the deceased has been identified as Ismael Vekarapi. He was wheelchair-bound.
“He was found with a rope tied around his neck against a window burglar bar inside his room at approximately 09h00 on Sunday morning,” Mbeha said.
Vekarapi resided with his family in the Grysblock residential area of Okahandja.
A hand-written suicide note in OtjiHerero was found in his pocket, the police officer stated.
Translated into English, the note read: “I am going to stay well, and where I am going is where you will come too. I am tired, I am tired”.
The note did not specify who ‘you’ was referring to.
