WINDHOEK, 04 JUL (NAMPA) - The South African national women's football team coach is impressed with the development of Namibian women’s football.
Vera Pauw told Nampa after her team’s training session at the Sam Nujoma Stadium here on Wednesday that Namibia's women's football set-up has improved tremendously over the past few years.
“It’s exciting if one looks at the Brave Gladiators’ results, and what they have done to get better,” said the coach.
The South African ‘Banyana Banyana’ team and Namibia’s ‘Brave Gladiators’ are due to clash in a friendly encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital on Saturday.
This match will kick off at 15h00.
Both teams are preparing for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Championship, scheduled for Namibia in October this year.
The South Africans arrived here on Wednesday, and had their first training session soon after landing.
‘Banyana Banyana’ beat Botswana by 4-0 in a friendly match last month.
Pauw said the match tomorrow is significant for her because she and Namibian coach Jacqueline Shipanga know each other personally, and have completed various coaching courses together.
She said they came to Namibia later than planned, but the match will serve as a platform to work on her players’ attacking skills.
The South Africans will next week play another warm-up against their Zimbabwean counterparts.
