KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has to develop a mechanism to monitor and address cyber security challenges, said deputy home minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He said the MCMC should be proactive in dealing with propaganda mounted by cyber troopers associated with the opposition to stifle attempts to create tension in the society.
"There are certain quarters who try to promote their political campaign that could harm national security. In this case, the commission must come on top of the situation before things get out of hands.
"Otherwise, the police have to step in if the security situation is at stake.
"Although we are not restricting freedom of the multimedia world, it is not a ticket for cyber troopers to abuse the advantage given," he told Bernama.
He said social network such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs needed to be monitored to prevent it from being misused to the detriment of national unity.
