TAWAU, July 6 (Bernama) -- The National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) is studying the feasibility of implementing a Rukun Tetangga (RT) and volunteers patrol scheme (SRS) to create a safer environment.

"The department is one of the components in combating crime through the SRS and RT. We hope this would be really effective in handling the crime rate and also aim to achieve our 60 percent Key Performance Index," said JPNIN Community Development Division director Abd Hadi Mohd Salleh.

He was speaking at the launching of the Tawau level Jom Ronda Versi 2.0 with the Motorcycle Patrol Unit here yesterday.

He added that the survey forms had been distributed nationwide and urged the local communities to cooperate with JPNIN officers.

Meanwhile, Abd Hadi said the department was also in the process of increasing the number of SRS members which was currently at only 3,747 people compared to a total of 6,370 areas.

He also noted that apart from the police, its other patrol partners were the Civil Defence Department, RELA and National Anti-Drug Agency.
