SWAKOPMUND, 19 JUN (NAMPA) – The Keetmanshoop Municipality’s Strategic Executive for Economic Development and Community Services, Jegg Christiaan was fired from his position on Thursday.
His dismissal is the result of an internal hearing, where he was found guilty of insubordination for refusing to act as council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when former CEO Paul Vleermuis was suspended in 2012.
A reliable source informed Nampa that Christiaan was issued with a letter of dismissal on Thursday.
Christiaan faced 12 charges, one of which was that he allegedly wrote a letter to the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development (MRLGHRD), informing them of vehicle misuse and theft in the council.
According to the source, the official was found guilty on five charges and acquitted of seven, prompting him to consult his lawyer to fight the matter.
“The letter informs him that the council resolved to fire him with immediate effect. This was done despite the advice of Christiaan’s lawyer Norman Tjombe that he must be given a warning, instead of a walking order,” said the source.
Christiaan on Thursday confirmed that he was fired. He also said he is consulting his lawyer to look into the matter.
