SIBU, July 6 (Bernama) -- Eighty-eight families who were made homeless in last month's Kampung Datu fire here, are set to observe the Ramadan month obligations in the privacy and comfort of their temporary homes.

Of the number, 68 families have received keys to the Housing Development Commission Flat units at SibuJaya, about 27km from here, while the rest will stay in similar flats in Rantau Panjang, about 48km from here.

State housing minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg presented the keys to the 88 families today.

Since the fire broke out on June 19, destroying 60 houses and leaving the families homeless, they were temporarily sheltered at a school, SK Lakis.

Speaking to reporters before the presentation, Abang Johari said the 88 families were expected to stay at the flats for two years.
