GEORGE TOWN, July 6 (Bernama) - A total of 69 high-powered motorcycle riders from the One-Nation Motoring Sports Club and Penang City Bikerz Club today participated in a charity convoy to raise money for the Lahad Datu Heroes Fund.
Their spokesman, Mohd Nazrul Mat Yusof, said the 400-kilometre convoy, which will cover Kedah, Perlis and Penang, was being organised with the cooperation from the police contingents in the three states.
"The number 69 is significant with the VAT69 Commando members who died in the intrusion tragedy in Lahad Datu, Sabah. We hope this program can help ease the financial burden faced by their families, especially with the upcoming Ramadan and Hari Raya," he told reporters.
He said the convoy participants would also distribute crime prevention leaflets and flyers to help the police in their campaign to reduce crime.
Mohd Nazrul said the two-day programme was also hoped to inculcate the spirit of 1Malaysia among club members and motoring sport fans.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Mazlan Kesah flagged off the participants in front of the Penang police headquarters here today.
