WINDHOEK, 11 JUN (NAMPA) – The lifeless body of a fully developed baby girl was found dumped in a riverbed along the Monte Cristo Road in the capital on Wednesday.
The baby was discovered at about 12h00, wrapped in a plastic bag under a bush in the riverbed by a passer-by who was using the route as a shortcut.
Shikesho said based on the evidence gathered at the scene, the baby was dumped in the early hours of Wednesday, because there are no visible signs of decomposition on the corpse.
This is the third baby found dumped in the same riverbed this year.
“Last year we recorded a significant decrease in cases of baby dumping, and we hope that this is not an indication that there will be an increase.
We, therefore, urge women who do not want to keep their babies, that there are mechanisms put in place by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) to leave their unwanted babies at its facilities. Killing a baby is not a solution,” he said.
