ASTANA (Kazakhstan), July 5 (Bernama) -- Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, will celebrate the 15th anniversary of its establishment, tomorrow.

The symbol of independence was given the name of 'Astana' in 1998, which means 'capital' in Kazakh language, and now becomes the centre of governmental, societal and cultural activities in the country.

As the city holds an eagerly anticipated Day of the Capital or also known as Astana Day, a group of six Malaysian media personnel were invited by the Republic of Kazakhstan Government to witness the festivity.

The five-day trip, since yesterday, would take them to all the symbolic spots in Astana to allow them to experience the culture, natural environment and rapid development of infrastructure which has vibrant architecture that combines the best traditions of Europe and the East.

Kazakhstan Charge d'Affaires in Malaysia, Daniyar Sarekenov said the special tour was organised to introduce Astana to the people of Malaysia through media channels.

"Our country has common approach and vision on many aspects. We hope that the media personnel would help to reveal all similarities and common values," he told Bernama today.

The official celebration of the Astana Day started two days in advance with the hoisting of the flag and will last for 10 days.

Among the celebrations being planned are Kazakhstan Sovremennik theatre performances to be staged in the Palace of Peace, concerts and the President’s cup and also the world cup tournaments which will be held at the Kazanat race track.
