KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The police will launch a large-scale operation to eradicate the problem of drug-related crimes in the country, especially in the Klang Valley.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the operation was aimed at nabbing the drug dealers, as well as addicts.

"The operation will be launched to uproot the drug scourge...in fact, we have never stopped the operation but just intensified and expanded the operation," he told reporters after closing the IGP Bowling Competition Cup here today.

He was commenting on a proposal from Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who suggested the setting up of a special team to combat drug-related crimes.

Khalid said the police would review the drug problem in the country as it should be monitored very seriously, adding that assistance would be sought from other departments under the Royal Malaysia Police to help the narcotics department.
